Does my child need to know chess? ▾
Not for the Rooks Track. We start from the very beginning — how pieces move, board setup, and basic rules. If your child is brand new to chess, Rooks is the right place to start.
How do I know which track to choose? ▾
Rooks: new to chess or playing less than a year. Queens: knows all the rules, can set up and play a full game independently, and has some competitive experience. If you're unsure, email us and we'll help place your child correctly.
What device does my child need? ▾
Any device that runs Zoom — laptop, desktop, or tablet work best. We use Lichess.org for the demo board and live games, which is free and works in any browser. A mouse makes it easier to move pieces but isn't required.
What if my child misses a class? ▾
All sessions are recorded and sent to enrolled families within 24 hours. The curriculum is designed with natural review built in, so missing one class doesn't put your child behind. Consistent attendance produces the best results, but life happens.
Is there a contract or minimum commitment? ▾
No contract. We bill monthly and you can cancel anytime with 7 days notice before your next billing date. We recommend committing to at least 3 months to see real progress — chess is a skill that compounds over time.
What is the Founding Family rate? ▾
Families who attended the July 2026 Edmonton Boot Camp qualify for $69/month instead of the regular $89/month. This rate is locked in permanently as long as you stay enrolled. Reply to the certificate email you received on July 24, or email us, to get your private link.
Are classes on a fixed schedule? ▾
We schedule class times based on what works for enrolled families. After you enroll, we'll send a short scheduling form to find the best time for your group. Typical options: weekday after school (4–6 PM) or Saturday/Sunday morning.
Is this connected to the summer boot camp? ▾
Yes — same instructor (Ife Akinpelu), same curriculum philosophy. Online classes are the year-round weekly program. The boot camp is our annual summer intensive in Edmonton. Many students will do both: classes during the school year, boot camp each July.
